Game ini merupakan turn-based startegy game, hampir mirip dengan game berjudul Age of Empires yang terkenal itu, dengan tema dunia fantasi, tapi tetap memiliki perbedaan dengan game bergenre strategi pada umumnya. Ketika game sejenis yang lain berkutat dengan kompleksitas atau kerumitan permainannya, game The Battle for Wesnoth menawarkan kesederhanaan dalam aturan dan permainan. Meski demikian, hal tersebut tidak membuat game ini menjadi sebuah game kacangan. Kesederhanaan yang diberikan membuat kita perlu memikirkan strategi yang jitu dengan matang, karena game ini memiliki batas waktu tertentu untuk menyelesaikan misi sesuai dengan skenario yang dimainkan.

Game ini memiliki, dan memang didesain untuk memainkan, Campaign Mode. Campaign Mode ini terdiri dari beberapa skenario yang saling berhubungan. Skenario yang ada masih bisa ditambah lagi dengan cara mengunduh dari situsnya. Selain itu, kita bisa memainkan game ini secara multiplayer melalui media Internet atau LAN, baik melawan AI (artificial intelligence) ataupun orang lain. Bagi para pemula, termasuk saya sendiri, tidak perlu bingung jika ingin memainkan game ini untuk pertama kalinya. Game ini menyediakan menu Tutorial untuk membantu mencicipi game ini.

Untuk ukuran game berbasis open source yang gratis (karena perangkat lunak open source tidak selalu berarti gratis, demikian pula sebaliknya), game ini bisa dikatakan T-O-P dah! Meski kualitas grafisnya yang, jujur nih, tidak bisa dikatakan “wow”, bukan berarti kualitasnya rendahan. Memang sih, di era game 3D sekarang ini yang memiliki kualitas grafis yang “aduhai” dan tentu saja memerlukan VGA Card yang sangat mumpuni, game The Battle for Wesnoth dengan grafis 2D-nya ini bisa jadi kurang menarik bagi para gamers. Ya, seperti yang telah saya sebutkan sebelumnya, berhubung game ini merupakan produk open source yang gratis, maka dari itu harap maklum dengan segala kesederhanaan maupun keterbatasan yang ada.

Dengan semangat 100 tahun peringatan Hari Kebangkitan Nasional dan semboyan “Indonesia bisa!”, ayo kita wujudkan bersama Indonesia Go Open Source, bebaskan diri dari ketergantungan perangkat lunak ilegal, serta berantas pembajakan perangkat lunak!

If the reasons I mentioned are true, so it should have a good purpose, right? But, even the purpose is right, doesn’t mean you can do any thing to reach the goal. Blocking those websites is not the only choice. For analogy, there is a rat in my house. You know that a rat carries diseases for human. You just can’t burn my house to protect me infected by diseases. All you have to do is catch the rat and kill or dump it. So, for preventing bad effects of internet, especially pornography, you can’t block websites which are irrelevant with the problems.

Internet is important for everyone at this moment. We can get all information from around the world by connecting to Internet. Is it any possibility to block all websites in the future because of this problem? My friend, Okto, said, “Why don’t block search engines too?” Please, don’t be so ridiculous. Do the government want to back to ancient time without any information from outside? Like old China did in the past?

Please, don’t blame the tool (Internet). The true problem is inside everyone. Why don’t the government give a warning or punishment for those people who distribute bad contents on the Web? Or maybe ask the website’s owners to delete bad contents from their websites? I think it is a win-win solution and a better way for all.

I believe the government concerns about its people and the nation’s future. And I’m sure this blocking is for good purpose. But, we can’t do any thing necesseary to create such an ideal condition without thinking its effects for other people. If there are some people harmed or damaged or suffered by this decision and those people are not guilty, can we say it is a good decision? MySpace and Multiply are social network websites. There are many people registered and not all of them distribute bad contents. So, please, don’t think so easily.

To create an ideal condition or reach a goal, it needs a lot of works and a long process. It is also hard to do. But, don’t you think it is worthed to do and very meaningful? So, let’s protect ourselves from bad effects of Internet with the right way: make the internet useful and give advantages for us!

I knew WordPress 2.5 had been released from Okto. He said that the size of WordPress installer had increased. The installer used to be more-less 300 KB, and now it is about 1 MB. Beacuse it is the latest version of WordPress, and its size is bigger, I suggest it wi wll give some new features within.

First try I upgraded it, I got some problem. Usually, I deleted my old WordPress files, uploaded a new one, and modified the wp-config-sample.php file to match its parameters then renamed it to wp-config.php. But, in WordPress 2.5, there was something different. After I uploaded a new one, I had to open file /wp-admin/upgrade.php in my browser to upgrade my engine. Finished upgrading, it would upgrade my database to suit with the new engine. Then, it was all done.

First to say, the Dashborad page. Now, it has different theme for Dashboard. The sweetest thing is, you can change the Admin color scheme by yourself only with a click. Gyaboo..!! It has two color schemes, Classic (old version) and Fresh (new version/default). Is it possible there will be more Admin color scheme on the net? Like downloadable themes for WordPress. I think that will be nice.

Second place, it has included a script for adding Gravatar in its default theme, Kubrick, by default. Wow! I copied that script and pasted it into my theme, so you can see Gravatar in the comment section. Mukyaa..!! It means, I don’t have to install additional plugin any more for adding Gravatar. I had tried WP-Gravatar plugin before, and it was too difficult for me to set it up. Plus, I couldn’t easily put its position as I wished. Or maybe it was just me who didn’t know how to use it?

Besides those two things I have mentioned, I, personally, think there are no more new features within WordPress 2.5. It still includes sidebar widget. But, I never use it because sometimes, when activated, its style looks awful. Actually, I want to put Recent Comments feature in my sidebar, so I can know the latest comments on my posts. Can anybody help me, how to put it without using sidebar widget tool?

Anyway, I finally bought my first audio CD! In the middle of exams, I bought L’Arc~en~Ciel’s album “The Best of L’Arc~en~Ciel 1994-1998″ with IDR 80000. And on the next day, I bought another CD again. Yup! I bought the latest L’Arc~en~Ciel’s album “KISS” with special price IDR 55000.

At first, I didn’t know exactly why I bought those CDs. I mean, I really want to collect all L’Arc~en~Ciel’s albums, but I already have those (illegal) albums in my computer. I don’t think that I would buy those CDs suddenly, just in two days! Maybe Sangprabo, known as The Ambassador of Anti-Piracy, have spelled or hipnotized me to buy original CD? Geez…

The reason why I bought those CDs is just because I’m a big fan of L’Arc~en~Ciel. They are my favourite band from Japan. They have inspired some Indonesian musician, especially J-Rocks, a Japanese-style band. As a fan, I surely want to collect all the L’Arc~en~Ciel’s albums. You know, I already have all L’Arc~en~Ciel’s albums in my computer. But, those don’t make me satisfy as a fan because there are not some kind of collectible items about L’Arc~en~Ciel. There are just MP3 files in my hardisk. So, I bought those CDs because I want to collect them as collectable items.

Absolutely, it is true that to buy an original CD is much more expensive than if you rent an MP3 CD from CD Rental, like Wahana or Studio One. But, I don’t regret it because it is worthed to buy. In fact, I have made a list of must-have CDs. And someday, I will collect them all.

I won’t say, “Stop piracy!” or something, because I ripped those albums into MP3 files and transfered them so I can listen those tracks in my handset. I’m just a fan that really want to collect the albums of my favourite artists and appreciate their works for creating awesome tracks.

First of all, I would like to tell you how to get Indosat 3G service. All you have to do is sending an SMS. Type 3G<space>your handphone’s brand<space>your handphone’s type, and then send it to number 3000. For example, I have Sony Ericsson W950i, so I type “3G SE W950i”. It’s easy, right?

After you send it, you need to be patience waiting for the reply. Indosat will send a reply in 24 hours. In my case, it didn’t take so long. After a few minutes, I got a reply. It said that I was given a password to activate the 3G registration. Then, I got an SMS which had an auto-setting function within. When I accepted that SMS, it automatically set up my handphone’s configuration, so I could use my 3G handphone’s features on the 3G network. Yeah!

At first time, I tried it to browse on the internet from my handphone, not connected yet to my computer. Whoa! I got a faster connection than before! That was nice. Then, I tried to connect it to my computer as a modem. My web browser ran fast when opened up websites on the 3G internet access. Last night, I downloaded an 11 MB software. It took about 13 minutes with more-less 14 KB/s of speed access. Pretty good. But, when I tried to download more softwares, while still downloading one, its speed access dropped down. It was only 3-5 KB/s. Quite slow!

Ah, I almost forget to tell you about the Indosat mobile internet services. I use Time-Based Indosat mobile internet service. It only costs IDR 100/minute. To get Time-Based service, just put “indosat@durasi” in as username and password for your internet account in your handphone’s configuration. If Time-Based service doesn’t suit you, you can switch it to Volume-Based service. Volume-Based service costs IDR 1/KB. Use “gprs” for your username and “im3″ for your password to get this service.

So far so good to me. Unless, about the speed access problem when download massive softwares. I can’t count on Indosat 3G for it, better go out find hotspot area. But, the ultimate problem is the 3G network itself. I don’t always get on 3G network all the time. To get on 3G network, I usually go upstair on 2nd floor, in my house! What a troublesome. Okto told me that 3G network’s coverage area is different from general GSM network. But, I don’t know the details. That’s why 3G network is not spread evenly. This is a minus point from me. Hopefully, Indosat will solve this problem, so it can cover more areas.

I don’t know how to start it because all I want to do is just write this article in English. I don’t have any special topic for this article. But, I won’t let it go like that. I will try to give you a shit shot.

Umm…where should I start? Okay, let’s start it with “behind the scene” section. First, as I remember, I viewed Rei’s blog when he gave a comment in my old blog. I traced his link, and voila! I found his blog, written down in English! Wow! That was amazing. Even I met him everyday, I didn’t have any idea that he could write like that. Then, I realized that he grew up in Bali, The God’s Island, where people all over the world came to enjoy its beautiful sceneries. So, it did make sense he was good in English.

Sinang has a blog with some English articles too. He is good in English, as I see it. I don’t know how or when he learn English. I think he just learn it by himself, because he never take an English course or something like that. But, it doesn’t matter. As long as you keep practicing, your English will get better.

Next stop, we got sangprabo (Bowo) wrote an article in his blog. He said that a journal should tell his English-learning progress. Nice words. I 100% agree with that. By writing a journal, we learn to improve our English, especially, as usual as always, in grammar. Then, I looked at Aldo’s blog. He said something about writing article in English, also with a few tips. Those tips is really something, it’s useful for me. In Aldo’s website (it’s different with his blog), he also mentioned the same thing. Hmm… So, I was thinking to write this article.

And then, I started writing this article a moment ago, without prepared it before. Just wrote it. Like Nike’s commercial tagline, “Just Do It”. Now, I present to you this article, my first article written down in English. What a short story to tell, huh? But, I think it’s okay for a beginning. Hopefully, I can write article in English again. You know, some people are hard to express train themselves in English. They can’t find the right words to describe what they’re feeling. I hope that won’t happen to me. Please, don’t.

Dalam soft launching di kompleks Kampus Terpadu UMY tersebut, Rektor UMY Dr. Khoiruddin Bashori dan Bupati Bantul Idham Samawi menjajal kemampuan sepeda motor yang menggunakan produk hidrofuel “Banyugeni”. Bukan hanya sepeda motor, produk hidrofuel ini juga diujicobakan di berbagai media, seperti lampu minyak (teplok), kompor, traktor, dan aeromodelling.

Hidrofuel “Banyugeni” adalah temuan dari lima peneliti UMY, yakni Drs. Purwanto, Ir. Bledug Kusuma Prasadja MT, Ir. Tony K. Haryadi MT, Ir. Lilik Utari MS, dan Dra. Nike Triwahyuningsih MP. Hidrofuel hasil penelitian UMY yang telah dipatenkan ini terdiri atas beberapa varian produk, yakni hidrokerosene (setara dengan minyak tanah), hidrodiesel (solar), hidropremium (bensin), dan hidroavtur (bahan bakar jet). Sama seperti yang dilakukan pada sepeda motor, percobaan pada tiga varian lainnya juga berhasil dengan sempurna.

Penelitian yang dilatarbelakangi oleh semakin tingginya harga minyak mentah di pasaran dunia ini sudah dilakukan semenjak tahun 2003. Untuk menjadikan air sebagai bahan bakar, diperlukan empat “perlakuan” yang disebut teknologi mekanotermal-elektrokemis. Proses ini melalui empat tahapan, yaitu mekanik (gerak), thermal (panas), listrik, dan kimiawi. Pengertian kimiawi dalam proses ini adalah memberikan “bahan lain” yang dapat menjadikan air bisa menyala. Tidak diberitahukan lebih lanjut, apa yang dimaksud dengan “bahan lain” itu.

Untuk bisa terbakar, ada beberapa proses kimiawi yang harus dilalui. Secara kajian ilmiah, air (H2O) terdiri atas beberapa molekul yang bisa terbakar. Unsur air bisa dipisahkan secara kimiawi, sehingga menjadi molekul 2H2 + O2. Unsur hidrogen (H2) inilah yang bisa menyala, bahkan bisa meledak. Selain itu, unsur oksigen (O2) juga merupakan molekul yang sangat berpengaruh dalam pembakaran.

Di samping sebagai bahan bakar alternatif, keunggulan lain dari hidrofuel ini adalah juga ramah lingkungan. Pada percobaan yang dilakukan di PT CoreLab Indonesia, sebuah laboratorium internasional yang independen, produk ini telah memenuhi standar Ditjen Migas, antara lain tidak korosif (tidak menyebabkan karat), tidak meninggalkan residu, serta kandungan sulfur dan timbal yang dihasilkan lebih rendah dari yang diperbolehkan.

Sayangnya, tidak disebutkan secara rinci berapa anggaran yang dibutuhkan untuk mengubah air menjadi bahan bakar. Akan tetapi, jika diproduksi secara massal, anggaran yang dikeluarkan bisa ditekan sedemikian kecil. Karena, pada prinsipnya, yang digunakan sebagai bahan dasar adalah air, yang jumlahnya tidak terbatas. Bukan seperti fosil. Pemkab Bantul menegaskan siap mengalokasikan anggaran untuk pengembangan penelitian ini. Namun, bukankah seharusnya tidak hanya APBD, tapi APBN juga layak untuk membiayai penelitian ini?

Tema ini terinspirasi dari tulisan salah seorang teman saya. Dari situ saya baru tahu bahwa Dian Sastrowardoyo akhirnya menjadi seorang blogger juga!

Setahu saya, sebelum Mbak Dian nge-blog, sudah ada beberapa nama selebriti lain yang lebih dulu eksis di dunia maya sebagai blogger. Sebut saja Yusril Ihza Mahendra (bukan selebriti sih, tapi seorang politikus), Angelina Sondakh (politikus juga, tapi dulunya Miss Indonesia 2001), dan Titi Kamal (nah, ini baru selebriti tulen). Mungkin masih ada nama-nama yang belum saya cantumkan di sini, silakan tanyakan sendiri kepada Mbah Gugel Yang Maha Tahu. Lalu, sebenarnya apa sih fungsi blog pribadi bagi mereka sendiri?

Dari apa yang saya lihat, menurut saya sebenarnya fungsi blog itu di mana-mana–termasuk blog pribadi para selebriti–sama saja kok, yaitu sebagai sarana untuk mencurahkan segala sesuatu yang dirasakan atau dipikirkan, dan sebagai wahana untuk berbagi kisah kepada dunia (kalau bagi saya pribadi, plus sebagai tempat untuk latihan menulis). Seperti blog-nya Mbak Dian, misalnya. Dari situ kita bisa ketahui apa yang ada di dalam benak seorang Dian Sastrowardoyo, kisah seputar kesibukannya, suasana rumahnya, dan lain-lain. Tak jauh beda dengan Mbak Dian, ada blog kepunyaan Wulan Guritno. Dari blog-nya, saya bisa tahu bagaimana pengalaman Ibu Wulan ketika berada di Bukit Tinggi, Padang, pemikirannya terhadap Indonesia, dan sebagainya.

See? Jadi, sebenarnya blog milik para selebriti itu tidak jauh berbeda dengan blog kepunyaan saya dan Anda sekalian. Hanya saja, berhubung mereka itu adalah para selebriti papan atas, sehingga punya basis penggemar yang sangat luas. Dan, para penggemar tentu penasaran dan ingin lebih dekat dengan sang bintang. Makanya, fans pun berbondong-bondong bertandang ke blog sang bintang, termasuk saya yang tidak pernah absen untuk blog-walking setiap kali online. Oleh karena itu, blog milik para selebriti itu pun menjadi ajang untuk berinteraksi dengan penggemarnya, seolah-olah fans diajak untuk memasuki kehidupan sehari-hari sang artis. Tapi, jangan terlalu berharap suatu ketika selebriti akan menuliskan cerita yang amat sangat privasi, semisal menampilkan foto-foto “syur” curhat tentang kisah cintanya. Para selebriti tentu berusaha untuk tetap menjaga privasinya, meskipun itu adalah blog pribadi.

Saya setuju dengan pendapat bahwa blog itu janganlah terlalu personal. Maksudnya adalah, jangan terlalu mengumbar hal-hal yang bersifat privasi. Meskipun tagline blog ini adalah “My Personal Weblog”, toh saya tidak menuliskan segalanya mengenai kehidupan saya. Hey, it’s a weblog afterall. Not a diary.

Berhubung saya sudah memasuki akhir tahun ketiga, maka salah satu momok bagi setiap mahasiswa akhirnya harus saya hadapi, yakni menyusun Tugas Akhir (TA). Oh, no! Jujur, saya belum mendapat ide ataupun wangsit untuk menyusun TA saya tersebut. Saya hanya bisa memberikan jawaban, “belum tahu nih,” pada setiap orang yang menanyakannya.

Saya akui, mungkin sebenarnya saya belum siap untuk mengambil TA. Tapi, kalau terus menerus ditunda, nanti masa studi saya semakin panjang dong. Saat ini, sudah ada dua kawan seangkatan saya yang telah menempuh ujian telor dadar pendadaran dan kini hanya tinggal menunggu upacara wisuda. Saya kok jadi merasa iri sama mereka.

Memang, ada yang bilang, semisal cepat-cepat lulus pun, belum tentu langsung dapat pekerjaan. Tapi, kalau misalnya saya memperpanjang masa studi untuk mematangkan diri dan meningkatkan skills, siapa juga yang bisa menjamin bisa langsung dapat kerja ketika lulus kelak? Yang seperti itu namanya buang-buang waktu saja, bagi saya pribadi lho. Kecuali saya menunda lulus kuliah dikarenakan memiliki pekerjaan sambilan. Itu tidak masalah, malah bagus tuh. Soalnya, semakin lama bekerja, pengalaman yang didapat akan semakin banyak. Tapi, saat ini saya kan sedang tidak terikat kontrak dengan bidang usaha apapun dan manapun. Jadi, menurut hemat saya, lebih cepat lulus lebih baik lah. Meskipun saya masih sekadar meraba-raba masa depan setelah lulus nanti.

Duh, saya bisa pusing tujuh kali keliling dunia kalau memikirkan itu terus. Bahkan, ada salah seorang teman saya yang dibela-belain putus sama pacarnya dengan alasan demi merampungkan TA! Begitu kuatkah ikatan sebuah TA–seakan menandatangani perjanjian dengan iblis–hingga mampu memisahkan dua sejoli yang sedang memadu kasih? Hii… Jadi merasa ngeri.

Yang jelas, saya berkeinginan TA saya sesuai dengan minat yang saya pilih, yaitu sistem informasi dan multimedia. Jadi, mungkin nantinya TA saya tidak akan jauh-jauh dari seputar data base dan semacamnya. Hanya saja, yang jadi masalah, hingga detik ini saya belum memiliki image akan seperti apa bentuk TA saya itu. Apakah berupa hasil analisis? Ataukah berwujud produk software/aplikasi? Nge-blank nih.

Huff… Berhubung wahyu tentang topik TA belum turun jua, sebaiknya saya harus segera bergerilya untuk mencarinya sendiri. Teman-teman saya pun sudah ada yang mulai mengambil langkah awal. Saya sendiri merasa telah menemukan jalur awal yang benar, meski arah tujuannya bercabang dan masih gelap. Toh, saya belum ketemu dengan Bapak Dosen Pembimbing, jadi masih terbuka kemungkinan untuk mendapat pencerahan dari beliau. Semoga. Mohon doa restunya.
